Creso table, Lella and Massimo Vignelli - Acerbis Design

A singular form with a monolith’s silhouette, the Creso table experiments with a sole pedestal of support to transform a table into the kind of vigorous geometry that defined the eye of Lella and Massimo Vignelli.
Returned to a more faithful rendering of Vignelli’s ideas, the new Creso explores a use of materials that underlines the potency of the design, with its round top and pillar base crafted formidably in travertine, or topped by glass and marble, braced by a base with various metallic finishes.

Finishes

The surfaces are available in the following finishes:
– Transparent glass, 15 mm thick;
– Matt Carrara statuario white marble, gold Calacatta, black Marquinia, red Levanto, green Alpi, 20 mm thick; marbles with polyester glossy finishes are available upon request;
– Matt Travertine, 20 mm thick (max Ø160cm), stone with a natural polished finish. The Travertine top is only paired with the base in the same finish.

The cylindrical base (Ø40 and Ø50 cm) is made with a steel tube, painted in a gun-metal grey or orbital bronze finish, or clad with a brass-plated steel foil. Another variation is the single-material version in matte Travertine, made from a single block. An internal iron column supports the weight of the entire structure without negatively impacting the marble cladding.

Travertine is a sedimentary and calcareous rock that is mainly distinguished by its unique compactness. In traditional form, it is a fairly uniform light beige stone, and the surface is puttied and polished to compensate for its porosity. The product consists of a mixture of carefully selected raw materials that are sintered at very high temperatures. The obtained slabs show off the splendid veining of marble in all its nuances and layering, which compares favourably with quarried marble.

The genesis of Creso attempted to recover the craft technique of Encaustic art, or “Venetian stucco”, in which a very fine sand plaster is applied with a spatula and then the colours, inspired by the 18th century paintings of the landscape artist, Francesco Guardi, are heated and fused.
