Vignellis’ legacy for Acerbis
“If you do it right, it will last forever.” Lella Vignelli
Furniture, everyday objects, packaging, interior design, corporate image: no area of design has not benefited from the indelible influence of Lella and Massimo Vignelli.
From the moment of their marriage in 1957 until the first decade of the new millennium, the Vignellis have left their mark with their distinctive signature on numerous designs and logos that have become worldwide icons.
What distinguishes the work of this extraordinary pair is a minimalist style combined with an interdisciplinary approach, based on Massimo’s ‘design is one’ philosophy, which argues that the designer is a versatile figure capable of applying his creativity to a variety of fields. This concept is clearly reflected in the various projects realised by the Vignellis for Acerbis and in the many aspects of their work.
The designs for Acerbis are characterised by geometry and precision of lines: the essential forms of Serenissimo (1985), with four column legs and a top supported by horizontal bars, are enriched by refined metal finishes or delicate shades of Venetian stucco.
The careful use of materials highlights the power of the design of Creso (1988), a table with a monolithic silhouette and vigorous geometry.
These two milestones of 20th-century design, now reinterpreted with contemporary dimensions and finishes for the Remasters collection, prove how Lella and Massimo Vignelli’s aesthetic and conceptual impact endures over time, continuing to inspire and consolidate their legacy in the contemporary design scene.
