Acerbis Recognised as a Historic Brand
Acerbis has achieved its first major recognition for 2025, officially joining the Italian Public Register of “Historic Brands of National Interest.”
Established by the Ministry of Economic Development, this recognition enhances and protects businesses that have been operating for at least 50 years and have gained historical and cultural significance for the country through their work.
This designation is not only a source of pride but also a testament to the distinctly Italian character that has always defined Acerbis. Founded in 1870 as a carpentry workshop by Benvenuto Acerbis, the company’s turning point came in the 1960s when Lodovico Acerbis, representing the third generation of the family business, created the Acerbis International brand and launched a new facility for serial production of design furniture.
Collaborations with the most prominent designers of the time naturally led to expansion into the international market. However, it was through the partnership with Giotto Stoppino that polyester lacquering techniques and research into new materials were introduced—both of which remain cornerstones of Acerbis today. The prestigious awards won by Acerbis collections over the years are a testament to the company’s innovative approach. By relying on high-precision manufacturing processes, Acerbis has introduced groundbreaking advancements in the furniture and interior design industry.
The acquisition of the brand by MDF Italia in 2019 and the appointment of the two new creative directors, Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces, have further strengthened Acerbis’ presence in the sector, allowing it to continue its journey of experimentation
With over 150 years of history and now officially recognised as a Historic Brand of National Interest, Acerbis reaffirms its role as a leading company in the design sector—an expression of Made in Italy excellence. Furthermore, the absolute modernity that continues to define its collections highlights the brand’s avant-garde vision.
“For me, as the fourth generation of the Acerbis family, this recognition represents much more than a corporate achievement: it is the confirmation of a legacy of passion, innovation, and commitment that has been passed down for over 150 years. Seeing the name Acerbis among the Historic Brands of National Interest is a deep emotion, a tribute to the work of the generations that came before us, and a motivation to continue looking to the future with the same determination and pioneering vision. This recognition is not only a testament to our past but also a sign of our constant desire for evolution and research in the world of design.” – Enrico Acerbis, brand ambassador.
